People who aren't experienced in the summer rainly season need, before everything else, a climatological understanding of both summer rainly season and autumn rainly season.
Korea's summer rainly season is a climatological phenomenon of continued nasty weather during a month from mid-June till mid-July; It comes with great amount of clouds, lowered duration of sun shine, a high percentage of humidity and rainfall, thunder and lightening.
The rainly season is a phenomenon caused by the cold front which is built between the North Pacific air mass of tropical wet air mass and the Okhotsk air mass of oceanic polar air mass; the cold front normally situates in 30 degrees north latitude from end of May til early June before advances north via Okinawa; then bring Korea a seasonal bad rainfall.
Korea is facing, in the main, the stationary seasonal rainfront extending east and west in the South Sea from end-June; It's Cloud area develops greater to cover about 200~300 Km from the axis of the front; The low pressure from west moves along the front and pours continous rain.
There is a high correlation between the amount of cloud and rainfall specially in rainly season. Sometimes it is cloud but not so much rain but in whole it is a special feature that lots of cloudy days and rainfall during the rainly season. The beginning time of the seasonal rainfall is mid-June and it is almost same over the country. But the amount and a duration of rain are varies regions by region. In a much rainy season the average of rainfall is 17~20mm per day, while in a less rainy season it is 8mm per day. So it is double in amount of rain when a much rainly season comes instead of a less rainly one.
It normally finishs in mid-July in South Korea with decreased amount of rain before the sultry summer begins. The autumn rainly season appears in the southern part of Korea from mid-August till mid-September with increased amount of rainfall once again.
The amount of rain during the rainly season takes 25~50% out of average annual total; For the period of rainly season meets the rice-planting season, especially, it affects huge to both vegetation and industry. Particularly, when the rainfront and the typhoon interact, it gives a localized torrential downpour and induces flood so that it causes huge damage.
As we have seen, the summer rainly season in South Korea is a climatic phenomenon of contineous rain with cloudy, high percentage of humidity over almost one month from mid-June til mid-July.
By the way from 1980 the summer rainly season has been strange that it gives few rain, more fair days, no rain or less rain than that of after the period of normal season.
And those strange rainly season has been given a few new names such as 'Dry rainly season', 'Missing rainly season', 'Rainly season without rain' and 'Guerilla rainly season'. For example, a happening such like that cloud develops, localized downpours, then stop raining, is called a 'Guerilla rainly season'. But calling it 'Dry rainly season' or 'Guerilla rainly season' for the strange pattern of raining over the period and calling a little showers as seasonal downpours are wrong expression because they give no thought to original pattern of the summer rainly season. In spite of the seasonal rainfront has been formed, we already have seen that there is no continued rain; Then we also have seen that the seasonal rainfront disappears before the sultry summer begin, so we have to say right expression as "There was no summer seasonal rainpours this year too."
Victor Christ's pledge of holding summer rainly season is not for display his power but for let his wish comes true; The wish of Cho who suffered terrible hunger--He ate pine rasin and water to fill empty stomach -- in His young age comes true by blocking the seasonal rainfall and the typhoon so that we can take good harvest every year. He knew that the seasonal rainpours and typhoons turns good harvest into bad in Korea. So it was his wish of early age that giving people good harvest all the time by holding both seasonal rainpours and typhoons. |
Rice-planting, too much rain before it root down may wash the plants away
A news article shows the sky in Seoul during the seasonal rainpours; It is saying as below: 'Dry seasonal rainpours till next Thusday' Even the seasonal rainfront has been affecting the nation from 17th but fine days of the dry seasonal rainpours is continued in Seoul and middle part of the nation so far on 24th June. It looks as though it were going to keep dry seasonal rainpours |
